Grantee Spotlight: Camp CAMP

Jul 15, 2025

A Year-Round Partner in Possibility

Since 1979, CAMP (Children’s Association for Maximum Potential) has transformed the lives of children and adults with disabilities through joyful, inclusive experiences. From weeklong summer sessions in the Texas Hill Country to weekend retreats, day trips, caregiver respite programs, and public events that raise awareness, CAMP provides opportunities for connection, confidence, and growth for individuals with disabilities and their families.

In 2025, devastating floods swept across Texas, damaging communities across the state, including Children’s Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP), who serve children and adults with disabilities.

Their riverfront was destroyed, along with some of their activity spaces and their beloved swingzebo, a gazebo shaped structure with multiple adaptive swings attached.

Warm Springs Foundation provided a grant to support cleanup and restoration of the riverfront, helping CAMP recover and reopen just 10 days after the flood, with their riverfront remaining closed for the remainder of the summer.

For many families, CAMP is a place where children with disabilities build friendships, gain confidence and experience independence.

Thanks to community support, campers soon returned to the experiences that make CAMP so special.

At Warm Springs Foundation, we support organizations that embody the spirit of possibility. And as our July Grantee Spotlight, CAMP does just that.

Beyond a Season: CAMP’s Year-Round Impact

CAMP provides year-round opportunities for empowerment for individuals with disabilities and their families.

For children and adults with disabilities (including those affected by traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and other forms of neurotrauma), CAMP offers more than just fun- it also offers support, connection, and encouragement.

At Camp CAMP, campers participate in a traditional summer camp experience safely and freely. Staffed and equipped to support complex medical or physical needs, Camp CAMP provides a way for individuals who aren’t able to attend traditional summer camps the ability to experience a summer camp setting designed just for them.

And while summers at Camp CAMP are legendary (who wouldn’t want to spend a week ziplining, swimming, and making memories along the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country?!), CAMP’s impact doesn’t stop when summer ends.

For over four decades, CAMP has created an inclusive, medically supported environment where children and adults with disabilities can thrive, grow, and just be themselves. Their mission? To strengthen and inspire individuals with disabilities – and those who care for them – through recreation, respite, and education. And they do an excellent job bringing that mission to life through year-round tailored programs created to meet individuals and families where they are.

  • Family Weekend Retreats: Fully accessible getaways that bring families together for adventure, connection, and relaxation
  • Teen and Adult Day Adventures: Social outings that foster independence, confidence, and friendships
  • Parents Night Out: An enrichment activity program for children with disabilities and their siblings
  • CAMPfest: A yearly celebration of inclusion that features music, games, food, and fun
  • Respite Weekends: Monthly events during the school year that give caregivers a break while participants engage in themed programming and peer connection

Across every program, CAMP creates experiences that honor the whole person, not just their diagnosis. And for those living with neurotrauma, CAMP provides a place to feel seen, supported, and inspired to keep moving forward. Whether for a day, a weekend, or a week, CAMP reminds us that healing is a journey that thrives on connection.

A Legacy of Support: 13 Years of Partnership and Possibility

CAMP brings communities and organizations together to create a stronger, more enriching experience for Campers.

Since 2011, Warm Springs Foundation has proudly partnered with CAMP to expand access to these life-changing experiences. What began as a shared commitment to healing and inclusion has grown into a 13-year collaboration grounded in a shared belief in what is possible.

Through grant funding, Warm Springs helps support scholarships, program enhancements, and infrastructure that ensures individuals impacted by neurotrauma can participate in CAMP’s programs regardless of financial circumstances. It’s a partnership that brings care to life not only in moments of recovery but in moments of joy and belonging.

But the partnership goes beyond funding. It reflects a shared purpose to invest in programs that meet people where they are and celebrate who they are.

Because at Warm Springs Foundation, every story we support is a step toward life-altering possibilities.
